Lost - Season 2 - Episodes 9-12

Disc 3
9. What Kate Did.
Flashbacks: Kate blows up a house, containing her mother's boyfriend, Wayne. She gives her mother, Diane, the insurance policy, but Diane reports her, and Kate is arrested by the marshal whilst she is buying a ticket to Tallahassee. In the car, he asks her why she waited until now to do it, but before she answers, a black horse steps out and the car crashes. Kate escapes and visits her father, Sam Austen. She asks him why she was never told that Wayne was her real father. He says he knew she'd kill him, but that murder wasn't in his heart. Even though he works for the army.

Whilst picking fruit, Kate sees a black horse and thinks she's going mad.
Jack is attending to Sawyer, when Sawyer says "I love her". Kate relieves Jack so he can go to Shannon's funeral. Ana doesn't attend but other tailies do. Sawyer asks Kate why he killed her and tries to strangle her. Locke and Jack arrive to see an unconscious Sawyer on the floor, and no Kate. Locke enters the code as the countdown hits 0. Kate asks Charlie if he's seen horses on the island. He says no. At the beach, Jack asks him if he's seen Kate and he says she headed for the caves. Locke removes Jin's handcuff. Michael asks Locke about the blast doors, Locke tells him about the film. Eko asks to see it too. Jack finds Kate, who says she thinks she's going mad. He reassures her, she breaks down, they kiss, she walks away, looking horrified. Michael comments about the orientation film's bad splicing. Locke puts it down to bad editing. Locke asks Eko what he thinks, he says nothing and leaves. Kate aplogises to Sayid for not attending the funeral, asking if he believes in ghosts. He tells her that he saw Walt just before Shannon died. Eko tells Locke the Bible story of Josiah, who found the Old Testament in an ancient temple, adding that he'd found a book in a temple on the other side of the island. He gives it to Locke, who opens it. It has a hole cut into it, hiding a small roll of film. Holding it up to the light, Locke sees it has Martin Candle in it, and splices it back into the film. Locke compares this coincidence to Eko's story. Eko warns him not to confuse coincidence with fate. Kate returns to Sawyer, relieving Sun. She calls him Wayne and tells him she killed him because he reminded her that part of her was bad, and that when she looks at Sawyer she is reminded of that fact. He wakes, calling it sweet, and asking who Wayne is. He asks if they'd been rescued, as he's indoors in a bed. She says no and leads him outside. He's disappointed. They both see the horse, so Kate touches it. It then walks away. Hurley asks Jack if he's mad at Sawyer because he has to chop wood while Sawyer's ill. Jack later joins Ana on the beach with four small bottles of tequila. As Michael is examining the computer, Locke and Eko watch the film. It reiterates the point more firmly that the computer is to be used for the one purpose only, and must not be used for outside communication, as it may lead to another incident. Michael hears a repeated beeping, but the countdown is at 51 minutes. He sees the word "Hello?" on the computer's screen. He replies by typing, giving his name when asked. It replies "Dad?"

10. The 23rd Psalm.
Flashbacks: When a child in Nigeria is asked to shoot a man, a young Eko steps in instead. When older, he buys heroin from two men, then kills them both when they say he has no soul. A third, a boy, appears- Eko lets him go, saying he must say Eko did so. A lady selling Mary statues in aid of Polio vaccines offers one to Eko. A priest asks him what he's doing there. He says confession and they smile. It is his brother Yemi. He has heard what Eko has been doing for three years. Eko reminds him he stepped in and saved him as a child. He asks if he can use a relief plane to smuggle drugs, saying he will use the money for the vaccines. Yemi says no. He says he and his colleagues will fly out, disguised as priests. The colleagues will burn the church if he doesn't. Yemi agrees. Eko says they are both sinners now. Yemi adds that he (himself) will be forgiven. As they board the plane, all dressed as priests, Yemi begs him not to get on. The military turn up, one of the colleagues and Yemi are shot. The injured Yemi is loaded onto the plane, but the remaining (gold-toothed) colleage stops Eko getting on, and they take off without him. The military think he's the real priest.

Locke changes the combination on the gun closet, Michael wants one so Locke teaches him rifle practice. When Kate cuts Sawyer's hair, Michael asks if he can work her shift, telling Sawyer he's glad he's ok. During the shift he returns to the computer. Via text on the screen, Walt says he's okay, can't talk long as they're back soon. As Michael is about to reply, Jack appears. He says they hadn't forgotten about Walt, and when they both look at the screen, it's gone blank.
Claire sees Eko carving onto a wooden staff. She asks him what he's writing. He says things he needs to remember. She introduces herself and Aaron. Eko comments that's the brother of Moses. Claire calls it pressure. He tells her Aaron spoke for Moses when he had trouble doing so, she tells him about Charlie's Mary statue. Eko asks to see it, and asks where he found it. She says it's just a statue so he breaks it and shows her the heroin. He finds Charlie with Jin and demands to be taken to where they are. Charlie says goodbye to Claire, she confronts him, he pleads ignorance, spilling it on the floor. He takes him to the wrong place. Eko sees some flying black smoke, Charlie doesn't notice. Eko asks Charlie to take him to the plane. Charlie asks how he knew, Eko asks him why he lied to Claire. He blames his brother for the addiction when Eko notices a parachute in a tree. Noticing the scripture engraved on his staff, Charlie asks if he was a priest too. Eko asks him to climb a tree to get his bearings. A nearby tree explodes and the monster appears. It is the black smoke, which stares down Eko before flying away. Charlie asks him why he didn't run. Eko ignores him and they head for the plane. Inside, Eko finds Yemi's rotting body. He tells Charlie it's his brother and they burn the plane, but not before taking his brother's crucifix and gives Charlie a replacement statue. He confirms he is a priest. When they return, Charlie confesses to Claire that he lied. He apologises, but she asks him to stay away from her and Aaron. He puts the statue with others he's hidden in the forest.

He asks Sawyer who he got the name from, given he's James Ford on the manifest. They hear gunshots, but only find Michael's casings. When it gets dark, John loses the trail. Jack insists they continue, saying they'll never see him again if they don't. John says Michael won't come back with them. A voice confirms they're right, but should listen to Locke. It's the bearded man from the boat. He suggests they talk. They say Michael won't find them, and that Walt is special. It's their island and they let the losties live there. Jack says he doubts they have so many men- they all light torches to show the group they're surrounded and outnumbered. They're told this is the line, to turn back, and never cross it.
